(WASHINGTON, DC – April 5, 2021) The Federal Laboratory Consortium (FLC) will showcase government-led technological contributions to the nation’s pandemic response efforts at its National Awards Ceremony, which will take place on April 8 at 2:30 pm.

The 2021 FLC National Awards include nine winning teams whose success at bringing technologies from the lab to the marketplace directly contributed to the fight against COVID-19. The FLC National Awards will highlight those winners with a special COVID-19 Response Distinction. The full list of 33 National Award winners can be viewed here.

The FLC’s annual National Awards recognize federal laboratories and their employees who have excelled in creating partnerships to shepherd technologies out of government labs and into the marketplace, where they improve the economy, society, and national security—a collaborative process called technology transfer (T2).

“Our award winners truly exemplify the types of public-private partnerships that President Biden has championed—collaborations that have life-changing impacts for the benefit of our society,” said Paul Zielinski, Executive Director of the FLC. “This year, technologies brought by our nation’s labs to the forefront of the fight against COVID-19 deserve special recognition.”

The FLC National Meeting, which this year runs virtually from April 6-8, is the largest gathering of federal T2 professionals in the country. The following award-winning teams earned COVID-19 Response Distinctions:

Department of Defense

  • US Army Medical Research and Development Command

DoD Collaborations Drive Rapid Development and Deployment of COVID-19 Isolation Chamber

  • Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane Division

NSWC Crane Offsets Pandemic’s Impact on Health and Economy with Rapid Licensing Program

Department of Energy

  • Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory

LLNL and Partners Take COVID-19 Ventilator Technology from Design to EUA in Three Months

Anti-Bioterrorism Technology from LLNL and Bio-Rad Helps Improve Early COVID-19 Detection

  • Oak Ridge National Laboratory

ORNL and Partners Help Address Urgent Need for N95 Masks to Protect COVID-19 Responders

Department of Health and Human Services

  • National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases

T2 Helps NIAID Rapidly Share COVID-19 Virus Particles for Research on Treatments and Vaccines
